at first i was like "i don't want to be an illustrator" because of the misconceptions linked to the title...as i observed, it seems illustrators here in the philippines (generally speaking) are underappreciated. there are some illustrators who are active and recognized - but considering the population of illustrators in the country; and the ratio of appreciated vs otherwise, the neglection of is very evident.
of course, artists help each other (depending on the situation as always), and illustrators have the support of the art scene. but how about the target audience? or the market itself whom the illustrators (unfortunaely) have to cater to?
as i compose this journal entry, a thought came in regarding the quality of the illustrators here in the philippines:
are we really underappreciated? or we're not just good enough?
